About
Andrew Small is a Berlin-based director of the Asia programme at the European Council on Foreign Relations.
He was previously a senior fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the US and returned to GMF after a period of leave in 2023–2024 to work as the first China fellow at IDEA, the in-house advisory hub for the European Commission president, Ursula von der Leyen.
He is the author of the books The China-Pakistan Axis and No Limits: the Inside Story of China’s War with the West / The Rupture: China and the Global Race for the Future.
